The Board of Directors and the Scientific Committee of the Child Neurology Foundation are pleased to announce Dr. Edward C. Gilmore as the recipient of the 2006 CNF Researcher-in-Training Award. The Researcher-in-Training Award, first given in 2003, is awarded to a promising child neurologist who desires a focused research experience during their early career.
Dr. Gilmore commented, “This grant will be a great asset to me as I make the transition from clinical medicine to basic science research of a clinical disease. Transitions between clinical and basic science research are very difficult to make in either direction. This grant will provide needed support for me to make this transition. I hope to prove myself worthy of this honor.”
A native of rural northeastern Ohio, Gilmore received his B.S. in molecular genetics at Ohio State University in Columbus, where he was introduced to basic science research in a variety of laboratories, studying subjects such as chloroplast DNA evolution, thyroid
