Dr. Lawrence Brown of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania has been named president of the Child Neurology Foundation (CNF). He will lead the organization for three years. Dr. Brown works for Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and has served on the CNF Board since October 2006. Dr. Brown's first order of business will be to launch CNF's Circle of 25 campaign to raise awareness that 25% of children in the United States have some form of neurologic disorder. Alan Faneca, Offensive Guard of the NFL New York Jets and his wife, Julie Faneca are the premier members and have agreed to serve as the public face of the campaign. Philadelphia lawyer, Leo Garonski will lead the advisory committee for this national effort to raise money for child neurology research.
About Dr. Brown: Lawrence W. Brown, MD is Associate Professor of Neurology and Pediatrics at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) and the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine. He is director of the Pediatric Neuropsychiatry Program, a multidisciplinary clinic for children whose complex learning and behavioral issues have a neurobiological basis. In addition, he is a senior clinician in CHOP’s Pediatric Regional Epilepsy Program.
Dr. Brown is the recipient of multiple honors and awards, including the Fritz E. Dreifuss International Scholar Award presented by the Epilepsy Foundation of America, fellowship in the American Academy of Neurology Palatucci Advocacy Leadership Forum and a teaching sabbatical at the Westmead Children’s Hospital in Sydney, Australia. Dr. Brown currently serves on the American Academy of Pediatrics Subcommittee on ADHD which is rewriting guidelines for diagnosis and treatment of ADHD.
